Ski Trac International has announced that work will begin this month on the world’s first Ski Trac revolving ski field.
“After many years of stops, starts, and recurring frustrations, Ski Trac International has its first official project.” said a company statement.
The development follows the establishment in November of a joint venture company involving Meishan City, 70 klms south of Chengdu in Sichuan province, for the purpose of constructing a Ski Trac and other associated projects.
The new company, 27% owned by the City’s nominee company and Ski Trac International Pty Ltd, under the name Dongpo Island Tourism Development Company Ltd., is charged with not only the construction of a twin dome ski and space attraction, but the development of the whole island into a major world-class tourist complex. Accordingly, Ski Trac in association with a visit by a delegation of Meishan city officials which included the Vice Mayor signed (18th December) a project management agreement in Melbourne with New Global Management, a group associated with some major companies in the architectural, development and construction industry.
The agreement, signed in the presence of a representative from the State Government and Melbourne City signals the commencement not only of what will be the world’s first moving snowfield, but the initiation of a unique destination in China. The island adjacent to the city is named after Su Dongpo, a one time renowned Chinese literary figure billed as the Shakespeare of China. A major feature of the development will be attractions surrounding this iconic gentleman. Work on the whole development will commence this month.

Astounding news. Since the early 1990s, I have spent a good deal of time in Dongpo (formerly Meishan) city and its surrounding countryside, engaged in anthropological research. I am confused about the “island” on which this project is to be built. Is this in reference to a sandbar in the Min River (Minjiang), which flows past the city? Does the project include adequate safeguards against seasonal flooding? One can imagine the amount of energy that will be required to maintain optimal climate conditions within the domed structure — in a subtropical region. A ‘feather in the cap’ for local officials, and money in the pockets of developers; but what about the large number of rural poor in this area?
This is grate news Kevin. Bill& Maureen
this is fantastic…..this project could also have a huge circular wavepool…so one could surf and ski at the same location…awesome and affordable…
