Swedish car maker Saab has partnered with Salomon to create their ‘9-4X BioPower Concept Car.’ According to a press statement this signals, “…Saab’s intention to enter a new segment of the market with a ‘crossover vehicle’ in the future.”
The 9-4X showcases Saab’s ability to produce dynamic, driver-focused vehicles drawing on Scandinavian design values whilst respecting the environment. This latest project underpins Saab’s commitment to pushing the boundaries in conceptual design in response to a growing demand from the more adventurous, independent -minded consumer.
The car is designed to run on Bioethanol E85 which contributes up to 70% less CO2 to the atmosphere from emissions, in part because the plants growing which are later converted to bioethanol take CO2 out of the atmosphere. The car’s ‘one tank’ technology means it can run on ‘pure’ unleaded fuel or bio ethanol or any combination of the two from one tank without modifications.
The designers from Saab and Salomon worked together to devise an innovative system for stowing skis and equipment inside the 9-4X BioPower Concept Car. The project also benefited from the expert knowledge and input from professional ‘Saab Salomon Big Mountain Skiers’ Kaj Zachrisson and Enak Gavaggio.
The rear cargo deck features a sliding floor with a foldout aluminium ski-holder, through which up to three pairs of skis and poles can be slotted. Boots are stowed in an under floor, heated compartment and for maximum practicality; the entire rear cargo area is covered in a waterproof and scratch resistant rubber ‘skin’.
