The 9th edition of the Verbier High Five by Carlsberg wrapped up under sunny conditions and a festive ambiance with professional and amateur skiers and onlookers on Saturday afternoon. Après-ski activities continued at Pub Montfort and by all reports things were still going strong and expected to continue late into the night.

Verbier ski resort, in Switzerland was host to top international skiers and snowboarders who came together for a race and charity dinner to raise more than 40,000 swiss francs (about $40,000 USD) in support of ‘Right to Play‘, an organization that uses sports to help child development.

The Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal, who slapped the boards back on for the first time since his major crash during downhill practice in Beaver Creek last November 2007 took the top honours at the final race with a 25 one hundredth lead the World Cup champion Didier Cuche. Didier Défago finished in third place.

Fränzi Aufdenblatten won the women final. The Slovenian Spela Pretnar finished second and Janette Hargin from Sweden finished in 3rd place.

Around 300 amateur racers also participated in the competition. Moreover some of the competitors and spectators had the chance to see James Blunt, who visited the Verbier High Five by Carlsberg.

On Friday night, the High Five Charity Night welcomed athletes and celebrities, such as Bertrand Piccard, Lolita Morena, Miss Switzerland, Top Model Alizée, Steve Ravussin, Yves Rossi to name a few of them. During this Charity Night, 40’000 Swiss Francs were collected for Right to Play.
