US Resorts Report Growth In Use Of Hybrid Vehicles By Guests

Two US resorts who have offered incentives to hybrid-electric powered cars drivers such as the famous Prius have reported on the success of their schemes.
At Aspen guests arriving in hybrid vehicles had been granted free parking since 2003 at all four of the company’s mountains. However the programe has become a victim of its own success and Aspen are having to withdraw the scheme.

In five short years, the hybrid has become as ubiquitous as the Subaru Outback in the Roaring Fork Valley. We call this success as the hybrid is now a successful product offering for many auto companies,”

said a statement in Aspen’s monthly environmental Green Letter.
Over on the East Coast Cranmore ski area in New Hampshire organized several hybrid car driver Saturdays last season, offering a free lift ticket to drivers arriving in their hybrid vehicles.
“Our free skiing for hybrid drivers was great this year and we ended up with about 20 Toyota Prius’ in the parking lot on those dates. We did it three or four years ago and none showed up. So I guess we’ve reached the tipping point,” said resort spokeswoman Kathy Bennett.

We gave free VIP parking and a free lift ticket to drivers of hybrid vehicles. We also educated our visitors on our biodiesel program and how to reduce your carbon footprint to help keep winter cool.”
