Sheraton announces new hotel at critized Xanadu entertainment facility

Although Meadowlands Xanadu in New Jersey has recently come under heavy fire by US media for its unattractive architecture and and potential damage to the environment, owners are now saying that it is because there have been no public relations efforts behind the project to calm fears and skeptical critics.

But that doesn’t seem to worry major hotel chains such as Sheraton who recently announced the opening of its property right next to the facility.

Sheraton will be opening a 250,000 square-foot (23,000 m²) right across the Xanadu, Meadowland’s project and will house SkyVenture, a state-of-the-art Skydiving Simulator and Vertical Wind Tunnel; Formula One raceway, an Indoor Race Car facility owned by Formula One; the Bergen Ballpark at the Meadowlands, an 8,000-seat Baseball-only stadium housing the Bergen Cliff Hawks, the Bergen River Dogs Stadium, a Lacrosse Stadium that will house the Bergen River Dogs.

The Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference Center is just across the street from Meadowlands Xanadu and offers amazing views of the New York Skyline. The hotel recently completed a $17 million redesign. All 427-newly renovated Guest Rooms feature the signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed, which boasts a multi-layered, lavishly plush custom-designed bed, sumptuous feather down pillows, crisp cotton sheets and a signature blanket and duvet. Other branded offerings include spacious Work Desks with Ergonomic Chairs, walk-in Showers and Coffee and Tea Service. Guests can also relax in the new Indoor Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi.

The Sheraton Hotel Chain will have the last laugh on the
NJ cynics who complain about Meadowlands Xanadu. When this new sports, entertainment and shopping complex becomes a major destination for corporate conventions and international travelers rooms at the Sheraton Meadowlands will be hard to come by.

Yeah . . . like the billion dollar Frank Lautenberg train station facility in the Meadowlands. Ever been there? It’s a ghost town!

I’m a little confused. Your post seems to imply that the Sheraton

      a) is building a new facility at the Meadowlands, and

      b) will contain features such as SkyVenture, Formula One raceway, the Bergen Ballpark and an 8,000-seat Baseball-only stadium.

Sheraton already has a facility across the street from the Meadowlands, The Sheraton Meadowlands (http://www.sheratonmeadowlandshotel.com/)

Why would they be building another hotel? No one at Sheraton could confirm this.

Similarly, the Xanadu complex, not the Sheraton, is slated to have the Skyventure, raceway and ballpark you are talking about. At least that’s what it says on their website:

      Am I missing something?
