Glasgow’s snowdome breaks all time attendance record

Xscape Braehead at Glasgow celebrated its busiest ever week at the start of August since the centre opened in March 2006.

The week from Monday 28th July to Sunday 3rd August saw 77,829 customers through the Xscape doors, an increase of over 10% on the previous best of 69,841 that occurred in the centre’s first full week of trading back in April 2006. The centre’s management say the figures show that Xscape is bucking credit crunch trends with visitor figures up 71% on the same week last year.

Ian Anderson , General Manager at Xscape said,

We are delighted to see the record breaking visitor numbers for last week and such a huge increase on the same period last year. There has been a lot of hard work and effort from all our staff and partners within the centre and you can sense a real collective effort and warm welcome as soon as you walk through the front door. Couple that with the huge range of quality activities and entertainment on offer and it is easy to see why people want to keep coming back.”

Along with its 200m long SNO!zone real snow slope, Xscape Braehead features a 15 metre high Skypark, adventure golf, 22 lane bowling alley, state of the art interactive football and an extensive range of shops and restaurants.

This year Xscape has particularly focussed on providing plenty of free in-centre entertainment with its indoor beach and three week Fun, Fashion & Fitness summer programme, attractions such as Britain’s Got Talent Kate and Gin plus film premieres featuring visits from the film’s stars - the glittering Wild Child UK premiere with lead actors Emma Roberts and Alex Pettyfer in attendance, having just taken place.

Peter Lederer Chairman of VisitScotland said ,

This acceleration in weekly visitor numbers is to be greatly welcomed. The quality of the visitor experience at Xscape and the warm welcome from all the staff, ensures a highly enjoyable time that visitors will want to repeat again and again. In these more challenging times there will be opportunities for some Scottish tourism businesses, and this is a great example of one capitalising on the current economic situation by providing a range of free events, along with fantastic customer service. I am sure the tourist industry in Scotland will take much encouragement from this very welcome news.”
