Stowe in Vermont is aiming to attract more skiers and snowboarders from North America’s most populated snowsports markets and is encouraging people to pack the car or board a train and come to the ski Vermont’s highest peak which opened for top-to-bottom skiing on Saturday, November 22.
Airline industry conditions and economic factors will likely preclude snowsports participants from taking distant trips this winter. People will continue to ski and snowboard however, they just might change where,”
said Jeff Wise, Stowe’s communications director.
“Unlike a decision to go to the beach, take a cruise or visit a theme-park, skiing and snowboarding is how people define themselves. It’s not a vacation, it’s a lifestyle choice,”
Stowe is a few hours drive from Boston, New York, Montreal and many other areas that represent the highest concentration of skiers and snowboarders on the continent.
“Our recent improvements and reputation as the superlative mountain experience in the East make Stowe a top-of-mind option,” Wise added.
Stowe has recently added Stowe Mountain Lodge, a new slopeside luxury hotel and spa, a new base area, an inter-mountain transfer gondola, new trails, a new beginner area, two new high-speed detachable quads, fully-automated snowmaking and exclusive mountainside residences.
The new Spruce Camp base lodge is Stowe Mountain Resort’s central source for skier and snowboarder services. The building includes restaurants, a bar, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, rental shops, retail, tickets, event space and public lounge areas that blend the unique dynamics of Stowe’s mountains with the comfort of a state-of–the-art luxury base lodge. The beautifully designed building is located adjacent to the new ‘Over Easy’ transfer gondola, providing convenient access to the slopes of both Spruce Peak and Mount Mansfield.
Stowe is an easy enjoyable drive. Clear signs, no traffic, well-maintained roads and gorgeous countryside make it a pleasant trip from most northeastern locations. Driving to Stowe from any eastern city is 90% state or interstate highway, more than any other resort in the east. Stowe Mountain Resort is in central Vermont, 15 minutes from Interstate 89 and 10 minutes from the train station. Amtrak offers service to Waterbury Vermont, just 8 miles from Stowe.
