Figures Put on Bansko Expansion

The continuing rapid expansion of Bulgaria’s Bansko ski area has been given some measurement by the southern European country’s Center for Economic Development (CED).

A CED report says that over 100 million Euros was spent on construction in the resort in 2005 and that more than 150 new hotels, guest houses and holiday complexes were registered for construction over the past siox months alone - between December 2005 and this May.

The CED report describes Bansko as the most rapidly developing of Bulgaria’s three main ski resorts, ahead of Borovets and pamporovo which took the majority of the international market prior to 2002.

The number of visitors to Bansko increased 20% to 600,000 in 2005 and the bed base has reached 7000.

The report concluded that the main challenge facing Bansko at present is a shortage of multi-lingual staff.
