Utah’s Powder Mountain is one of the largest ski areas in the US, but has a reputation for having rather slow and old chairlifts.
That’s due to change next winter as the resort will begin installation of a new Doppelmayr high speed quad to replace its oldest lift, the 1972 Hidden Lake double chair, on July 1st.
The new lift will cost $4.5 million an may be the first stage of a yet-to-be approved master plan calling for housing, lodging, restaurants and summer facilities.
At 5,500 acres, Powder Mountain claims to be the largest U.S. ski area, but only about half of those acres can be reached easily from one of five chair lifts. Other places can be reached by hiking up mountain ridges.
