New Ski Centre under Construction in Bulgaria

Work on a new ski resort has begun this week in Bulgaria. The ski centre is close to the small southern city of Blagoevgrad, 101 km (63miles) south of capital Sofia.

Named ‘Kartala’ the resort will initially have 30km (19 miles) of runs of all standards, up to 4.2km (2.6 miles) in length, supported by a network of surface lists and a chairlift.

New hotels are also being built at the centre, to provide 1,500 guest beds at opening. Kartala is 20km from Blagoevgrad, a city of 100,000 people and home to the American University, the only English-language college in the Balkans.
