Ever have trouble deciding between a tropical vacation and a ski vacation? Austria’s Sportgastein ski resort may have alleviated the need for a choice.
SkiRebel.com has learned that next spring the local lift company Gasteiner Bergbahnen plans to haul in 50 genuine palm trees and ‘plant’ them high in the mountains of the resort.
Called ‘Palms on Alms,’ the stunt will feature many tropically themed celebrations along with the tropical trees, including cocktails, music, and what the lift company hopes will be appropriately sunny weather.
“Perfect conditions on the slopes, lots of sunshine and– that is sunshine skiing with true Caribbean feeling. The green, exotic plants against a background of blue sky and white snow in Sportgastein’s alpine skiing region are a sight you don’t see every day.” Said a lift company spokesman.
Sportgastein is located in the Austrian town of Bad Gastein and is regularly a stop on the Snowboarding and Boardercross world cup.
