Xscape sports centre at Milton Keynes to build Casino

Xscape in Milton Keynes, home to the first of the three SNO!zone indoor snow centres in the UK, has been granted planning permission to expand with more shops, restaurants and a casino in a £40 million development.
Despite late objections from the British Government’s architectural advisory body, the Commission for Architecture and Built Environment (CABE), the proposals were passed at the thirds attempt after Xscape had agreed to reduce the height of the development from an originally planned 61 metres, in the original submission 15 months ago, by a third to just over 40 metres.
There were a number of objectors to the proposed development, mostly on architectural grounds, and the planning committee was split 50/50 with the casting vote in favour of the development being given by the temporary chairman. One architect likened the building design to, “a pig that has arrived from space.”
Xscape spokesman Andrew Russell said, “Our plan is innovative, exciting, well-constructed and good news for the city and the people of Milton Keynes.”
