The Himalayan Ski Village was supposed to be a world-class resort near the top of the world.

SkiRebel.com has learned that the long planned Himalayan Ski Village in Northern India may finally be canceled according to reports in local media.

The ski village project that envisaged a five-star, world-class, ‘eco-friendly’ resort was first launched in 2006 by Alfred Ford, a member of the famous motor car manufacturing family.

Initially welcomed by the Indian Congress government, over the years forces including the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and local interests led to a freeze being placed on the progress of the development while every aspect of it was re-examined.

The latest media reports say the Himalayan Ski Village project has not submitted the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report required by the newly elected government and that it is therefore likely that the government may recommend cancellation of the project “since the promoters have not even fulfilled the basic conditions we wrote to them in May 2008, asking them to submit the EIA report so that necessary relaxations under the Forest Conservation Act could be approved from the Ministry of Forest and Environment,” a government spokesman told local media.
