It's not the most glamorous way to travel, but that may not be as important to you as safeguarding the beautiful natural world outside the window.
Skiers looking to to minimize their carbon footprint should consider how they’re getting to their favorite eco-friendly destinations.
Traveling to European ski resorts by coach accounts for by far the lowest CO2 emissions of any mode of motorised transport, argues tour operator Skiweekends.com.
The company says that according to UK government statistics, on a journey of 100 miles (160km), a car with one occupant will produce up to 41.4kg of CO2, a passenger on an aircraft 27.5kg, a passenger on a train 9.3kg, while a coach passenger accounts for just 4.8kg. Research carried out in the US agrees that motor coaches use the least amount of energy and produce the lowest carbon dioxide emissions per passenger mile.
“Not only is coach travel one of the most cost efficient ways of reaching ski resorts, the above reports prove that it’s also the least damaging to the environment,” said Dan Fox, managing director of Skiweekends.com.
