Winter Dew Tour arrives in Breckenridge this weekend

Breckenridge is the first of three stops on the tour.

The Winter Dew Tour returns to Colorado’s Breckenridge Ski Resort for the second consecutive year this weekend, hosting four days of slopestyle and superpipe competitions for the world’s best snowboard and freeski athletes.

Totino’s Open is the first of three stops on the world’s premier season-long winter action sports tour, which is kicking off its sophomore season. The open starts Thursday, December 17th at Breckenridge.

The athlete roster includes a who’s who of the snowboard world, highlighted by defending Dew Cup champion Spencer O’Brien as well as Olympic hopefuls Mason Aguirre, Steve Fisher and Breckenridge-local Zack Black, fresh off a third-place finish at the Grand Prix at Copper Mountain. The best of the best in the freeski world will also be competing at Breckenridge Ski Resort, with icon Simon Dumont and local athletes Colby West and Bobby Brown representing their sport.

Action Zone tickets for the Winter Dew Tour’s Totino’s Open are available for $100 for the weekend and are on sale exclusively through the event’s website.

Beyond the competitions, Colorado-natives OneRepublic will headline two nights of the Winter Dew Tour’s Music Series. The performances on Friday and Saturday will be at the Riverwalk Center in the town of Breckenridge. Friday night’s concert will begin at 7pm, while Saturday’s will kick off at 7:30pm. Tickets for both shows are $22 and are be available via allisports.com. Five dollars of every ticket purchased will be donated to local charity SOS Outreach.

Entering its second season, the top athletes in the world will take part in this year’s Winter Dew Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded in Mount Snow, Vermont at season’s end. The 2008-2009 Dew Cup champions include Shaun White (Snowboard Superpipe and Slopestyle), Kelly Clark (Snowboard Superpipe), Spencer O’Brien (Snowboard Slopestyle), PK Hunder (Freeski Slopestyle) and Tanner Hall (Freeski Superpipe).

The Winter Dew Tour consists of three major, multi-sport events spanning across the country, with a cumulative points system, and a $1.5 million competitive purse. Each event features men’s and women’s snowboard (superpipe and slopestyle) and freeskiing (superpipe and slopestyle). At season’s end, the overall point’s leaders are crowned year-end champions and awarded the prestigious Dew Cup. As part of an Alli property, key lifestyle elements compliment the competitions at each Tour event including the Festival Village, specialty competitions, and live cutting edge music. The Winter Dew Tour is broadcast live on NBC Sports with additional competition and lifestyle broadcasts on MTV, MTV2 and USA. The Winter Dew Tour is also distributed on Fuel TV, Universal HD, and internationally on Eurosport, Fox Australia and Extreme Channel.
