Quebec’s Mont Saint-Sauveur has opened a new four-season attaction at their ski resort, and viking helmets are required.
Sauveur’s new Viking ride is a 1.5km (1mi) alpine coaster opened on December 12th, and is open to anyone over the age of three on Saturdays and Sundays. The Viking can handle up to 1000 people per hour, and the price is $10 for one run, $15 for two, $20 for three, or $33 for five.
According to the resort, the concept is initially based on summer toboggan. The single car slides freely in a series of step descents and circular curves on a track cut through rugged mountain terrain, and the passenger can control the speed of the ride. This means the passenger can choose not to brake or go as fast as he or she wants or go slower and take more of a scenic-type ride.
The toboggans are firmly connected to the rail system, which means that even when force is used, they cannot be separated from the rails. Additionally, the rails are built a few meters above the ground. This means that it can also be used during the winter season.
The Quebec ski resort had an early start to the season, and 90% of the runs are currently open.
