Olympic snowboard champion Jasey-Jay Anderson makes a triumphant return home from Games

By the time Mont-Tremblant native Jasey-Jay Anderson  stepped into the television camera’s bright lights at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport Monday night, the veteran Olympian turned a big page in Canadian snowboarding history.

For the humble 34-year old, facing his family and well wishers to greet him, these Olympics mark the end of an illustrious career that literally spring boarded when he ushered into snowboarding as a medal category.

In the short term, Jaysey-Jay took a commanding lead on the international circuit and has since landed 59 World Cup podium finishes, including 26 victories — but now he has the crown jewel.

Overwhelmed by the amount of support, Anderson confirmed to RDS that he was in fact retiring after trying to win the crown jewel during three previous Games but always missed out. This time ‘Ive accomplished everything I wanted too’,  he said with a smile while taking the time to sign some autographs from admirers.

His arrival was somewhat overshadowed by Joannie Rochette’s. In a display of showmanship and team spirit, Anderson took the mike and paid tribute on behalf of all the athletes. A talented individual that spent most of his life fighting for a medal and he finally got it. It was the perfect way to end a hard-fought career. It was golden.
