Argentina’s Catedral ski area, the largest in South America, has unveiled a new quad chairlift ahead of the coming 2007 season.
The new Amancay quad replaces the old Teleski 2000 lift and ascends from a base at 1,770m to 2,500m in only seven minutes, ascending more than 700 meters with a capacity of 2,000 skiers per hour. The Diente de Caballo triple chair links the new quad to the Punta Princesa area.
A new double chairlift, the Del Bosque, with a 1,500 per hour capacity, replaces the Luipe drag lift. It has a conveyor lift to ease getting on the lift, a first for South America.
Four new surface lifts have also been installed. They include Baby Ñandú II Lift (in Area 2000) for beginners as well as Plaza II (in Plaza Oertle) and Jumbo III (at the base). A fourth new drag lift, Ro-Cat, is intended for advanced skiers and boarders to get to off-piste terrain from La Hoyita.
Other improvements include eight hectares of snowmaking cover in the in the Plaza Oertle Area and a new ski in/ ski out cafeteria, La Roca, built in ‘mountain-style’ and designed in harmony with nature and the landscape. It is located where the Nirvana Cafeteria used to be and is open all day.
