Draft plans for a vast £1 billion leisure development on the site of a former shipyard near Liverpool have been unveiled by business consortium Reddington Finance in advance of a decision by local government on whether to give the project the go ahead later this month.

Reddington intend to flatten most of what remains of the former Cammell Laird shipyard on the Wirral’s coastline and build in to the Mersey by creating an artificial island.

The project also involves a man made beach, 4,000-seater arena, a museum of maritime heritage, ferry terminal, five star hotel, luxury waterfront apartments and retail and office space.

According to local newspapers Reddington have been talking to the team behind the Tamworth snowdome about creating a similar indoor snow venue in the development.

Two interesting facets of the project strike a chord with the snowdome industry over the years.

Firstly the plans include a link with John Lennon Airport, which was near to the location of the area’s first indoor snow centre - a short lived project by Polar snow.

Second, the developers state they have financial backing from investors in Dubai, location of one of the world’s more elaborate indoor snow centres, due to open later this year.
