Some of the world’s best free skiers will once again make the pilgrimage to the South Island ski Mecca of Lake Wanaka for the third annual Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open on 21st to 29th August 2007.

The biggest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, the Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open attracts top athletes ranging from extreme skiing world champions to X Games gold medallists. The action takes place in the park and giant superpipe of Snow Park NZ as well as the steepest and most challenging backcountry terrain, accessible only by helicopter and the testing chutes of The Remarkable and Treble Cone ski areas.

The Icebreaker Big Mountain Qualifiers kick off at The Remarkables on 21st August followed by the semi-finals at Treble Cone on 22 August. The heli-accessed finals will take place in the Harris Mountains. After some downtown Wanaka rail action on Saturday 25th August, the competition moves to Snow Park NZ for the halfpipe on 28th August and the Slopestyle on 29th August.
