The Trentino ski mountaineering season closes on Sunday 17 April with the 31st “Scialpinistica Dolomiti di Brenta”. An event for professionals and the only one of its kind to feature such a challenging itinerary. As always, both departure and arrival points will be located in the heart of Madonna di Campiglio. From here the 150 participants that compete each year will begin the climb up to Monte Spinale and the “Cima Roma”. The event is valid for the third Nations Cup as well as being the final act of the “Dolomites Cup”.
Obviously the event is for well trained athletes, specialists in this fascinating discipline, who will subsequently tackle the second part of the route on the Grostè, then move on to the Cima Brenta passing through the Bocca dei Tre Sassi at an altitude of 2614 metres and finally the last leg up onto the Val Gelada peak. This will be followed by the spectacular descent to Passo Campo Carlo Magno at 1651 metres, after which they’ll come back to Madonna di Campiglio and more precisely to the frozen lake right in the centre of town.
The route, which participants in previous editions covered in just over two hours, is characterised by a total difference in level of 1,800 metres and, thanks to the sheer, imposing rock faces of the Brenta Dolomites, is particularly challenging as well as highly suggestive.
In winter the same route is a favourite with excursionists, who can personalise their outings with a variety of destinations that only this corner of Trentino is capable of offering, even in the height of winter.
Some of the greatest professionals of the moment are expected; athletes such as Hansjoerg Lunger, Ivan Antiga, Carlo Battel and Orietta Calliari.
