Everest Challenge Rides Again

After the success of the Ski Everest Challenge 2006 organised to raise funds for Cancer Research at the SNO!zone in Xscape, Braehead, Glasgow last year, the organisers are staging the event again in 2007.

Last year the event raised a massive £15,000 for Cancer Research UK and the organisers are aiming to at least match the figure when the event is repeated later this year.

The Ski Everest Challenge involves skiing or boarding down the SNO!zone slope more than 40 times over a period of approximately two to four hours in order to ski or board the equivalent to the near nine kilometre vertical height of Mount Everest.

This timed event was originally due to be staged at the end of June, and is being run on a Saturday rather than Sunday as it was last year, to help Challengers who are travelling a distance and the event has changed to the summer to accommodate Xscape’s request to avoid their peak winter period. However the event has recently been postponed due to clashes with other snow calendar events in the UK.

When it is rescheduled, anyone with at least basic levels of fitness and ski/board ability will be able to take part. The Registration Fee is £23 and all participants are asked to raise a minimum of £50 for Cancer Research UK. Fancy dress again is optional but as the photos from last year proved it all added to the fun.

Joint organiser Eileen-Frater will again be offering up space in her Guest House in Ayr (www.queensguesthouse.com) free of charge for the Friday and Saturday nights, so participants should let her know if they would like to book a room.

For details and a Registration form please contact Eileen Frater eileenfrater@yahoo.co.uk
