Tiffindell ski area has reported 30cm (12 inches) of snow has fallen over the past few days, topping up earlier falls and machine made snow.
All five of the resort’s ski runs are open with a slope length of up to 1050m and snow depths of 60-100cm (24 – 40 inches). Most trails are groomed but the top run has been left unpisted. Temperatures are currently hovering a few degrees below zero.
South Africa’s first truly commercial ski centre opened in 1993 and has gone from strength to strength, thanks largely to snow-making technology and a determined and innovative management team. Natural snowfall of up to a metre in 36 hours has been recorded in recent years but the stretching of the season from mid-May (One of the earliest to open in the southern hemisphere), through to mid-September has been largely thanks to ever improving snowmaking techniques.
