All systems are go now for glacier skiing at Dachstein glacier.
The Dachstein glacier in southern Austria has re-opened for summer skiing this weekend, two weeks later than planned. A glitch following the replacement of the first steel cable installed in 1969, was responsible for postponed opening. As a result lift operators, Planai-Hochwurzen-Railways slashed season-ticket prices.
A new gondola that looks set to be one of the most architecturally spectacular in Austria is under construction at Solden.
Work on the mountain base of the new lift, up to the Gaislachkogl peak, began last summer to allow the concrete foundations time to set. The lift proper will be installed this summer ready to begin operation next winter.

That’s a 50 per cent drop since the peak of the mid 1990’s when there were more than 40 resorts in the northern hemisphere offering summer skiing.

The Dachstein Glacier in southern Austria has re-opened for snow sports and unveiled its improved Horsefeathers Superpark for the summer snow season.
The park offers a new three-boxes-line and freestylers can now slide down up to four rails in a line. On top of the two existing rails, an 11-meter downrail and a 14 meter double kinked rail are being added.

Austria’s Kitzbuhel resort is adding two new lifts for next winter, a 10 passenger cable car and another eight-seater chairlift.
Lift manufacturer Leitner reported that the leading Austrian resort of Kitzbuhel ordered the chair lifts.
The new Maierl gondola will be Austria’s first ten-seat gondola, and will replace a double chairlift and a drag lift on the route.
The 2.7km (1.7mi) long lift will take users up more than 671 vertical metres (2,200 ft) and transport 2,400 passengers per hour. It will also offer heated seats.
