Austria’s First 10,000 Metre Ski Tour

Solden in Austria’s Otztal region has created a special ski tour to highlight the three 3,000 metres plus peaks now accessible by state of the art lifts above the resort. This opportunity, unique in Austria and rarely matched anywhere else in the world is just another achievement for the centre, famous for having a choice of two glacier summer ski areas, enabling it to open one or the other or both, 365 days a year.

Avalanche Safety Training for Children in Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier 1500 is running a series of special avalanche awareness courses for children in a bid to instill a respect for the potential dangers on the mountain from an early age.

The courses on 27th February and March 3rd will offer advice in skiing off piste and introduce children to the Avalanche Victims Rescue system (ARVA).

Verbier Xtreme 10

This year will see the tenth staging of the famous Verbier Xtreme contest, which has grown to become, the organisers believe, “the greatest manifestation of freeriding in the world.”

28 of the world’s best free riders - 16 boarders (four of them women) and twelve male skiers, will be getting together to share their passion and demonstrate their talent on the rocky north face of the Bec des Rosses with its 45 - 55 degree pitches. The event provides a breathtaking spectacle for the thousands of spectators gathered on the Col des Gentianes.

Lake Louise Opens Longest Ever Lift

The spectacular Grizzly Express Gondola, the longest lift ever built by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies at the world-famous Lake Louise Mountain Resort in Canada, opened to skiers and boarders Monday.

Under construction since last summer, the six-person Grizzly Express Gondola for the first time ever allows skiers and boarders to travel non-stop to the peak of Lake Louise Mountain Resort. It cuts the time spent on lifts in half before heading to the backside of the famed resort consistently recognized for offering the most spectacular scenery in North America. The gondola is almost 10,000 feet or three kilometres in length.

Michel beats Maier

Briton Finlay Michel recorded one of the UK’s best ever downhill ski racing results in the World Cup in Bormio where he finished in 11th place. Finlay finished well ahead of some of the sport’s biggest names, including the legendary Hermann Maier, former double Olympic Champion.
