Hemsedal ski area in Norway, already one of the world’s most family-friendly ski resorts, will expand its children’s and beginner’s area for the coming season.

A local firm called Winter Sport has announced plans to spend some 32 million Euros on the construction of a ski resort near Smolyan, a high-altitude town located 90 km (56 miles) south of Bulgaria’s second city, Plovdiv.
With only a week to go, only five countries have submitted bids to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, four of them are from countries that have never held Winter Olympics and have either a short history at least in offering substantial downhill skiing facilities, or have longer histories but still limited facilities.

Inghams have introduced a host of new flight routes for the coming winter.
Choices from Manchester now include a service to Sion in Switzerland on Euromanx serving Crans Montana, Saas Fee, Verbier and Zermatt. There’s also a service to Bolzano with Tyrolean serving Canazei, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Arabba, Ortisei, Selva, Passo Tonale and to Venice with British Airways serving Cortina d’Ampezzo.
