Report Predicts Colorado Meltdown By 2050

Ski To Sea Race at Mt Baker

Mt Baker in Washington State, USA, famous for having probably the greatest snowfall recorded at any ski resort and closed again by too-much-snow for access/lift operations earlier this year, will be part of the annual Ski to Sea Race on May 28th.

Dispute Over Land Ownership at Mt Ruapehu

Plans for the construction of three chairlifts over the next two years at Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand could run in to problems due to a Maori land claim. Raetihi-based Uenuku Tribal Authority, representing Whanganui hapu from Raetihi and Ohakune, has lodged a claim with the Office of Treaty Settlements over 2020-hectare (5000-acre) area of land on Mt Ruapehu’s
southern slopes which includes Turoa ski-field, one of two areas operated by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts.

Ski and Golf World Championships in Austria

The annual Ski and Golf World Championships will be staged from 17th to 21st May, in the ‘Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun’ in Austria. A good handicap or a superb technique in giant slalom alone is not sufficient here, for this special challenge the participants need both.

New Quad For Crested Butte

Improvements for the 2006-2007 ski season are already underway at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) in Colorado. The “to-do” list includes a new high speed quad chair lift, upgraded snowmaking, a new winch cat, increased safety patrols, mascot “rehab”, real estate acquisitions, upgraded software systems, project completions and new project plans.
