The Saas Fee Ride 07

This weekend’s Saas Fee Ride 07 is gearing up to be a freesports festival packed with on-slope action form some of Europe top New School freestyle skiers from various international teams. Athletes will gather in Saas Fee on the 21st July 2007 to compete in a world class Half Pipe event, a perfectly shaped and huge Big Air competition and an expression session Rail Jam.

Small Ski Areas Still Building Big Lifts

Whilst several small mid-sized ski areas in the Alps, including Abondance in France, have decided to call it a day after the poor snow winter at low altitude last season was the proverbial ‘last straw,’ others are investing in new infrastructure in a bid to continue the fight.

Alpe d’Huez Goes Hands free

Alpe d’Huez ski area in France is the latest major resort to offer hands free lift tickets. The resort’s 2007-8 season kicks off on December 1st when skiers and boarders buying tickets valid for two days or more will be able to buy a hands free ticket for a two Euro supplement.

Leading ski instructor operator puts ‘Risk before Rapture’

Ex army officer and managing director of leading Whistler ski instructor course operator, Paul Beard of Alltracks Academy has set out to raise the bar on safety awareness and standards by including a minimum of six days training for all clients planning to go off piste, to minimise the risk of injury due to avalanche this winter.

American Skiing Company Sells Last Resort and Ceases Operations

The American Skiing Company, which began trading a little over a decade ago from its base at Sunday river in Maine has announced it will cease trading later in the year following the sale of its last resort, The Canyons in Utah, to a Canadian firm.
