Ski areas across New York state are facing a labor shortage for the upcoming season.That’s because no more temporary non-agricultural worker visas are available for the first three months of 2008.

More World Cup points at next Tour de Ski edition
The next Tour de Ski winners can earn double the World Cup points than in the inaugural edition of the eight-race cross-country ski series, the ruling body FIS said on Wednesday. The FIS said at the Forum Nordicum meeting in Sweden that World Cup points will be awarded at all eight stops of the December 28- January 6 event, but half the amount than at a regular race with 50 instead of 100 points for the winner. The overall champion then bags another 400 points.

Investors buy Sleeping Giant Ski Area
A pair of investors have bought the Sleeping Giant Ski Area in Park County and plan to reopen it by Thanksgiving 2008. Jim Nielson and Tom Fitzsimmons, both of Cody, signed a contract earlier this month with Keith Dahlem and Dahlem’s mother. Dahlem owned improvements on the property inside Shoshone National Forest and had a Forest Service permit for the ski area until earlier this year.
