A massive storm has dumped 50cm (20 inches) of snow over the past week at Mt Hutt leaving snow drifts up to three metres deep in some places on the mountain. The heavy weather closed the ski area and its access road on Sunday.

In a day where many countries around the world are fighting the effects of climate change, The Arab emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has announced plans to challenge Dubai’s indoor ski resort by constructing a conventional ski resort in local hills where temperatures regularly reach +35 degrees Celcius.
