U.K.’s first indoor jumping facility project gets underway

Development of the indoor multi-purpose snow facility in Wrexham, Wales got underway in the past week.

The £8m ($16m) project, Wilderness Tip, Gresford, is the result of a decade of planning and will include an artificial ski slope, ski jump, toboggan run and chalets is scheduled to open in 2010.

The Nike Group (no relation to the famous sportswear manufacturer) behind the project already operates six leading artificial surface ski centres in the UK. The company have carried out initial earthworks two years after getting planning permission and are now waiting for bids to come in for contractors on construction work.

    Russia’s former president Vladimir Putin, a keen skier and personally instrumental in winning the 2014 Olympics for the Black Sea resort of Sochi, is reported to have bowed to growing pressure from environmental campaigners regarding the location of some of the venues for the Games.
