Despite a market contraction, UK demand is increasing for Japanese ski resort Hakuba.

Despite the contraction of the UK ski market over the past few years, interest in Japanese ski resorts seems to keep increasing with the Ski Club of Great Britain announcing new packages there this winter while specialist ski tour operator W&O Travel Ski Dream is offering the previously little covered resort of Hakuba for the 2010/11 season. Courchevel to offer free skiing on World Cup Day

Courchevel is hoping the ladies World Cup stop will generate the same excitement as did with Ingemar Stenmark in 1979 when the resort last hosted the FIS race.

Courchevel is excited to be back on the World Cup circuit, 21 years after the one previous occasion that it staged a World Cup event, when in January 1979, for the only time its history, the resort hosted the men’s giant slalom, where one of the greatest champions in history, Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark, a man with 86 World Cup victories to his name, won a resounding victory.
