We’ve come a long way since launching our first issue of SkiRebel Magazine in 2001. From a SkiRebel Magazine in PDF Format to moving everything online on a blog in 2007 you’ve grown along with us.

Now that the skiing season is done, it’s time to put the thinking caps on and start to think about next season. Ski Rebel Magazine is preparing to unleash a whole new site in just a few months and we want you to be a part of the action. A new redesign is underway along with some new content features and we’d like you to be the centre of attention. Tell us what type of skiing news and features you’d like to see on our site and you may qualify to win a special T-shirt with our new logo.

Colorado Ski Visits Up So Far in 2008
Record snowfall helped boost the number of visits to Colorado ski areas to about 5.54 million visits in January and February.
The total is a 6.7 percent increase from the same period a year ago and puts Colorado on pace to best last year’s record.

Vail Resorts offers unlimited season pass

(Denver Business Journal) Vail Resorts Inc. on Tuesday unveiled a new season pass for next year that’s about $300 cheaper than the current pass.
The Epic Season Pass will offer unlimited skiing at all five of the company’s resorts, with no blackout dates, for $579. For children 5-12, the price is $279.

Prince William and Kate Middleton on ski break
Prince William took his girlfriend Kate Middleton to the slopes of Klosters this week for a invigorating skiing holiday. Kate, 26, looked chic in black and white as she mastered the runs at the resort where their on-off relationship came to light in 2004.

Record snows draw 5.5 million to slopes
Colorado ski areas attracted more than 5.54 million in visits in January and February, besting last year’s performance by more than 6.7 percent, according to the trade group representing the state’s mountain resorts.

Researchers predict Que. ski season will be dramatically shorter in future
The snow may be record-deep in parts of Quebec but researchers are painting a bleak future for the province’s $800-million ski industry.
Climate experts at a Montreal university say their research shows that ski operators can count on shorter, warmer winters that could cut the season in half in some areas.

New Heroes Set Stage for Future
The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup has a different flag flying this year - the red, white and blue. For the first time in history, three Americans have claimed five of the 12 crystal globes. Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) and Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) took the overall titles, with Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) taking the giant slalom crown, Vonn the downhill and Miller the super combined.

Squamish environmentalists are set to take on developers who have spent almost a decade jumping through a variety of hoops in order to gain approval for their ski resort proposal just north of the town.

At the heart of the dispute is the future of Brohm Ridge, a pristine highland area known for high-quality snow conditions and old-growth trees, which is sandwiched between Mount Garibaldi and the Sea to Sky Highway.

Jean-Philippe Roy (Ste-Flavie, QC / Gatineau, QC) completed the Coupe Nor-AM Cup season by finishing second today at the Nor-Am Finals in Whiteface, New York.
Roy had the fastest opening run of the day and finished today’s Men’s giant slalom in a two-run combined time of two minutes 05.12 seconds, just 0.17 behind the winner, American Tommy Ford.

Dawson & Routhier lead Canadians at World Junior Championships
Brittany Phelan finishes third among J1’s in Ladies slalom in Formigal, SPA

Travis Dawson (Calgary, AB) led the way for Canada for the second consecutive day, finishing 18th in today’s Men’s Super G at the World Junior Alpine Ski Championships in Formigal, SPA.
Eve Routhier (Sherbrooke, QC) battled through rain and intense fog to be top Canadian in a Ladies slalom which was also held today, finishing 20th with a two-run combined time of one minute 37.26 seconds. Routhier was followed closely by Larisa Yurkiw (Owen Sound, ON) in 26th and Brittany Phelan (Mont Tremblant, QC) who placed 27th overall, finishing an impressive third among J1’s (15 to 16-year-old’s).
