Niseko snow season ends season with an average 60 feet of snow

After such a good year at Nikeso, a Japanese prays for more snow ahead of the 2010-11 season.

Niseko in Japan, is widely renowned as the second snowiest ski resort in the world (behind Mt Baker in Washington State, USA), reported its 09-10 season snowfall was, “a little above average” with a total of 18 metres (about 60 feet) of snow.

Big snow at Treble Cone in New Zealand as resort officially kicks off 2010 season

With good snowfall conditions in most of the southern hemisphere, the 2010 ski season officially kicked off last weekend with Coronet Peak New Zealand reporting a 50cm (20 inch) base including 15cm (six inches) of new snow.  Thousands of Queenslanders hit the piste to celebrate.

Swedish ski mountaineer Fredrik Ericsson has announced plans to complete ski descent of K2 again this summer, a year after his first attempt was curtailed by the death of his expedition partner, Italian Michele Fait, who fell to his death while skiing down from K2’s C2 on the SSE spur.

Following a string of selloffs, Intrawest, the owner of a dozen ski resorts throughout North America and Europe has announced the sale of Mountain Creek in New Jersey for an undisclosed amount of money.

The Vancouver-based company, owned Mountain Creek since 1998, stated the resort did not fit into the long term corporate strategy.

Skiing still kicking away in Scotland with the hottest weather recorded in May

Still skiing at cairngorm

The spring weather seems to have been quite eventful in many places on the northern hemisphere including CairnGorm Mountain in the Scottish Highlands, where temperatures reached upwards of 20C slopeside last week.

Snow sports enthusiasts flocked to the high tops in their shorts, t – shirts and kilts to enjoy the unseasonal temperatures out on the ski slopes.
