Snow pummels the Pyrenees ski resorts

The Pyrenees received an abundance of snow last week.

Record snowfall over the past week has transformed the Pyrenees on both French and Spanish sides into a vast winter wonderland. Sarah Burke foundation launched in memory of late freerider

Red Mountain expansion to be massive by scale. Impressive to say the least!

Many didn’t believe the Farmers Almanac. As the saying goes, the years may follow but there are no two identical winters. After a devastating winter, Eastern North American ski resort operators are ecstatic after two big snowstorms brought the skiers out in droves their resorts during the Christmas / New Years break.

Climate change study puts ski resorts on slippery slope

Protect Our Winters (POW) recently co-authored a report estimating the economic loss to ski resorts associated with climate change

A newly published report concludes the impact of climate change can be linked to more than $1 bn in lost revenues and 27,000 lost jobs in the United States ski industry. 

The reports authors, Protect our winters (protectourwinters.org) and the Natural Resources Defense Council, two environmental pressure groups, concludes that if nothing is done to slow down or negate climate change, there could  be potentially abundance of snow loss anywhere from 25-100% with many more billions of lost revenue and jobs.  Continue reading ‘Climate change study puts ski resorts on slippery slope’

Love or hate them, aside from annual magazine reviews, there were not many other ways to gauge which resorts were favoured with consumers until Facebook.
