The knives are out for the resignation of top Bulgarian officials since the approval to develop into the Pirin National Park, a world UNESCO heritage site.

Pressure and heavy handed lobbying to stop further development of Bulgaria’s Pirin mountain range, a UNESCO world heritage site from over expansion, have lead members of the national Green Party to demand the resignation of the Minister of Environment, Nona Karadzhova, and her Deputy, Evdokiya Maneva along with the Director of the National Office for Nature Conservation, Mihail Mihaylov, after the government gave the green light to expand operations throughout the park. Too little too late? Environmentalists covered up 295,275 square feet of the Presena Glacier this summer in Italy in a bid to slowdown the melting.

Having lost 40% of its mass in the decade leading up to 2003 due to global warming, environmental authorities at the Presena Glacier above Passo Tonale attempted to cover the glaciar’s surface with an insulating and reflective ‘blanket’ this summer in a effort to slow the rate of melting. Alpe d’Huez is awarded triple crown Eco certification.

The S.A.T.A (ski lift company) which runs the lifts and maintains the pistes at Alpe d’Huez has earned three separate levels of certification for its service management.
