Fog cancels Garmisch super G

      For the second week in a row the World Cup men's tour has been forced by weather to cancel a super G race. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany event scheduled for Sunday (Jan 29) was postponed several time this morning before being shelved completely by a thick fog layer. Veterans lead way in first training run at Kitzbuehel

To the surprise of no one it was all veterans leading the way during the first training run today (Jan. 17) ahead of Kitzbuehel's downhill. Klaus Kroell, Mario Scheiber, Didier Cuche and Bode Miller were the fastest four to complete the run down The Streif under cloudy skies on a relatively smooth, compacted track. Other top North American results included Erik Guay in 13th and Travis Ganong 22nd. Wiley Maple crashed into the nets below the Steilhang, but team officials report he was uninjured. He was the lone skier to be listed as did not finish. Three, including Canada's Louis-Pierre Helie, declined to start and three were disqualified. Although two sections of the course, the Steilhang and Seidalm Meadow were injected, the consensus was the surface was soft. FIS to hold Downhill races in City Centres as promotional scheme

Munich Olympic Park will be the site of a 2011 FIS event.

Munich Olympic Park will be the site of a 2011 FIS event.

In a bid to boast the popularity of skiing, The International Ski Federation (FIS) voted at its annual general council in Turkey, to bring events to city centres by holding sanctioned events starting next year.

The first such event will be held at the Munich Olympic Park on January 2nd, 2011 and will consist of a parallel event to feature the top 16 competitors. Athletes will earn FIS overall World Cup overall title points and top four thru the finish line will be given regular World Cup points.
