Six Flags bankruptcy may affect Doha Snow Centre project from being delivered

It is not known how bankruptcy protection will affect next year’s delivery of the $3-billion Qatar Entertainment City, a giant 1-million square metre theme park in Doha. While the project is 70% complete, as reported last week by Ski Rebel Magazine, is supposed to include a Six Flags theme park.
Six Flags Inc., the world’s largest regional theme park company filed for Chapter 11 on Saturday after being saddled in more than $2.0 billion in debt.
The company which is based in New York, operates theme parks across the United States, Canada and Mexico claims that operations and projects will not be affected and cited that it will allow to restructure itself to be stronger in the future without swimming in debt.

Qatar’s entertainment city 3/4 complete to include Six Flags theme park

One of the most talked about new ski developments in the middle east is Qatar’s mammoth $3-billion Qatar Entertainment City a giant theme park. The project is 70% complete and will incorporate the country’s first indoor snow slope according to developers the Abu Dhabi Investment House.
Qatar Entertainment City is a mixed-use development, currently being developed in the Lusail Development, north of the capital, Doha – which covers an area of one million square meters and is situated on the waterfront. It recently announced the commencement of phase one which includes the infrastructural work of the development.
The one million square metre beachfront park, close to Doha, is due to open next year with five regions themed on different climate zones on earth and includes a a Six Flags theme park.

Qatar entertainment city opening from 2010

The first phase of the multi-billion dollar Entertainment City in Qatar, which is due to include the country’s first indoor snow centre, will open by 2010 according to Rashad Y Janahi, MD of Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH), the company behind the project. “God willing we will be able to complete the project and throw open the facility to people by 2015,” he told the Gulf Times.

Entertainment City will be a, “fully integrated family entertainment destination” in Lusail, a 35 square kilometer northern expansion of the country’s capital, Doha. It will have 180,000 square metres of leisure, retail entertainment facilities, and restaurants with a waterfront location. Climate-controlled pedestrian walkways, theme parks, water park, rain forest and aquarium will be some of the other attractions at Entertainment City, which will be divided in to five districts linked by a canals served by water taxis.
