Kostelic Wengen combined victor, Bode third

Ivica Kostelic had been nearly three seconds behind after the downhill leg of the super combined, the kick-off event of the 82nd Lauberhorn at Wengen Friday (Jan. 13).  It didn't matter. Portes du Soleil claims that each skiable kilometre cost .33 cents per adult making it the best deal around.

The Portes du Soleil region which offers 650km of terrain on one ticket, spread between a dozen resorts on each side of the French/Swiss border, says that although not the cheapest, their six day lift pass (216 Euros – 282 USD) for adults up to March 30, 2012, 184 Euros (216 USD) for the rest of the season, is the best value you can get. A new six seater chairlift is dramatically improving uphill capacity at Champery.

A new hotel currently being built in Gstaad Switzerland will be the first all new five star in the legendary Swiss resort to open in 100 years. The 57-room Alpina Gstaad (www.thealpinagstaad.ch) is scheduled to open in December following an investment of 300m Francs (320m USD) and will contain suites providing spectacular views of the Bernese Alps as well as a bar lounge, three restaurants, wine tasting room, cigar room, spa treatment room, ballroom and boardroom. Andermatt and Sedrun mountain resorts are to be linked through a massive expansion program

Egyptian billionaire, Samih Swiris, will team up with a Swedish company to link the Swiss resorts of Andermatt and Sedrun under a proposed new plan unveiled earlier this month. A letter of intent proposes that Andertmatt Swiss Alps, a subsidiary of Sawiris’ Orascom development and SkiStar will join forces in a proposed $159.8 million development projects together.
