The Union Creek High Speed Quad cranked into high gear just before the holidays replacing the highpoint lift that had been put into service in 1976.
The gears have started turning on Copper in Colorado’s brand new Union Creek High Speed Quad. The new lift provides a speedy six-minute ride to the top of Woodward at Copper Central Park and several new beginner trails on the western slopes of Copper Mountain (www.coppercolorado.com). It replaces the Highpoint Lift, which had faithfully served Copper since 1976, and the resort says that its increased rider capacity and speed will enhance the experience for skiers and riders of all ability levels. Pending approval by the U.S. Forest Service, Vail should have a new gondola in time for its 50th anniversary later this year.
Vail Mountain (www.vail.com), the largest ski resort in the United States, is making plans for its 50th anniversary in December 2012, by announcing the planned installation of a new, state-of-the art gondola to replace the Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16) in Vail Village.

Rapidly deteriorating course conditions at Eldora Mountain Resort following roughly four inches of overnight snow forced the postponement of the men's and women's slalom races for the University of Colorado/Spencer Nelson Invitational.
The slalom races are tentatively rescheduled for Friday (Jan. 13), while the Nordic freestyle and classical races of the CU Invitational will take place as regularly scheduled Friday and Saturday at Steamboat Springs.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) today (Dec. 12) announced that Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer, Andrew Judelson will leave his post after 18 months on the job.
“In the past 18 months our organization has made great strides in establishing more productive revenue centers to support our athletic programs,” said USSA President Bill Marolt. “This week, though, I regret to announce that Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Andrew Judelson has accepted a senior position with another company and will be leaving the USSA.”
Judelson came to the USSA after serving as chief marketing officer for the Sports Illustrated Group, following eight years with the National Hockey League, where he rose to senior vice president of corporate sales and marketing. He also worked closely with the USSA while a manager of corporate sponsorships and events for Sprint in the mid '90s.
The USSA has already begun the search for his replacement.
