Plans that to build a new multi-faceted entertainment complex that would include a new snow centre, a theme park and a hotel did not blow over too well with residents of Hurricane, Utah a couple weeks ago. The 200 residents that attended the public hearing into the project were undecided as to which way they should lean their support.
The plans envisage an indoor snow centre as part of a larger theme park, the ‘Our World Family’ park.
The park would be built on 2,000 acres in the city and would include a school, a 30 storey hotel and a water park on 2,000 acres in the town.
Local media reported that Bill Boulter, President of the company behind the project, told residents that the American Capital Schools was the cornerstone of the project and would recruit students from all over the world with a focus on entrepreneurship. He said that all financing was in place and the project just need the town’s support to move forward, creating up to 8,000 jobs.
Before the meeting Hurricane Mayor Tom Hirschi told local media that of the residents who have talked to him about the project, most are in favour.
“Three to one are in favour (of the project),” Hirschi said.
Mostly real estate people, developers and people out of work, and I don’t blame them. The economy needs a boost.”
The council was expected to vote to support the project earlier this month.
