Help is on the way to the lowland porters in Nepal. Falls Creek Ski Lifts in Australia has donated hundreds of last year’s outdoor staff uniforms to the Porters’ Progress organisation.
Albury-based Stuart McLean will deliver them to the Porter’s Progress organisation in mid-September.
McLean, who has completed 10-12 trips to Nepal, said, “It is a wonderful gesture by Falls Creek Ski Lifts to provide such a large quantity of good quality outdoor clothing that could save Nepalese porters’ lives.”
“When my group of about 30 go to Nepal in September, to do the Everest Circuit, I will ask each member to take some of the donated uniforms with them.”
“The Porters’ Progress organisation was formed to save the lives of Nepali mountain porters and their families.”
“Some of the smaller companies that support the trekking and climbing industry in Nepal don’t have adequate clothing. Handing over this enormous amount of appropriate clothing, to the organization, will help keep porters alive while on the trail.”Print This Post
