Barrymore, Sigourney take World Cup halfpipe openers in Copper

The World Cup and U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe season got under way today (Dec. 9) at Copper Mt., Colo. as Americans Brita Sigourney and Wing Tai Barrymore took home the wins amongst tough fields filled with X-Games and Dew Tour medalists.

Sigourney of Carmel, Calif. hauled in a top score of 86.6 in her second run after a disappointing first run to earn her first World Cup victory. Canadian first run leader, Rosalind Groenewoud was 5.2 points back to claim second place while Swiss skier Virginie Faivre took third.

American Maddie Bowman just missed the podium in fourth place.

The men’s competition was dominated by Americans as Barrymore led three of his countrymen onto the podium with a winning score of 87.2. Torin Yater-Wallace finished second ahead of Duncan Adams in third.
