German giant slalom specialist Viktoria Rebensburg took her first World Cup win in a speed event with a 0.18-second winning margin ahead of American Julia Mancuso in second. France’s Marion Rolland, who earned the first World Cup podium of her career with a second-place finish in yesterday’s downhill, continued her impressive week with a third-place finish today, just three-hundredths of a second behind Mancuso.

One year after missing out on her fourth World Cup overall championship by just three points, American ski racer Lindsey Vonn finally reached that goal and has left no doubt as to who is the top woman in the sport today (March 9) as she set several U.S. records and claimed her 52nd career World Cup win with a GS victory in Are, Sweden.
Vonn, who won the first World Cup GS of her career at this season's opening race in Soelden, Austria in October, had just a 0.07-second lead in the first run today.

FIS officials deciding that the race would not be rescheduled in the short span of the remaining season meant that American Lindsey Vonn, winner of one of the two races held this season, will take home the 2012 super combined title.
Despite the best efforts of the course workers and organizing committee,
German Maria-Hoefl Riesch just edged American Lindsey Vonn for the win in a World Cup super combined in St. Moritz, Switzerland today (Jan. 29).
With just a three-hundredths of a second advantage, Hoefl-Riesch spoiled Vonn’s chance at completing a three-win hat trick here this weekend, forcing Vonn to wait for her 50th career World Cup win.
“It would have been nice to have a hat trick. I’m really happy for Maria — but I’d rather she beat me by a second,” said Vonn.
