The movement towards helmet use on Canadian ski hills became ever stronger today, as a grassroots organization launched a new campaign encouraging helmet use.

Only a week after the Canadian Ski Council released its new policy recommending helmet use, the Community Against Preventable Injuries (CAPI) launched its You Probably Won’t Need a Helmet Today campaign. The effort stresses that helmets are credited with 60 per cent reduction in head injuries among snowboarders and skiers.

A campaign release said that although close to 1,000 skiers and snowboarders require hospitalization from injuries annually, carving it up and having fun on the mountains doesn’t have to be dangerous.
