Andermatt and Sedrun mountain resorts are to be linked through a massive expansion program

Egyptian billionaire, Samih Swiris, will team up with a Swedish company to link the Swiss resorts of Andermatt and Sedrun under a proposed new plan unveiled earlier this month. A letter of intent proposes that Andertmatt Swiss Alps, a subsidiary of Sawiris’ Orascom development and SkiStar will join forces in a proposed $159.8 million development projects together. Nevis Ski Range to have a new lodge.

The ground has been broken toward a new café bar restaurant at the base of the Nevis Range mountain gondola, near Fort William. The new facility will replace the existing coffee shop that is 20 years old, and will cater to a growing number of customers for sightseeing, skiers and snowboarders and mountain bikers. Laax to host the BRITS are back ski fest in March.

The BRITS Festival (www.the-brits.com) is back in Laax, Switzerland from the 20th – 27th March 2011. The event brings together seven days of top snowboard and ski action with seven nights of live music and DJ acts. Engelberg ski tunnel will connect with central Switzerland in the coming days.

Officials from the central Switzerland resort of Engelberg are hoping that images of floods in 2005, that left more than 1,500 tourists stranded and subsequently airlifted to safety, will be a thing of the past, when a four kilometre rail tunnel connecting it to the national transportation grid opens on December 12th. Sweden will have Europe’s fastest lift when it opens on December 26th

The new six-chair express lift will be the biggest in the country with a length of just over two kilometres (2,043m) ascending over a vertical of 470m.
