Arapahoe Basin ski area in Colorado received bragging rights for 2013-14 as it was the first ski area in North America to crank up the lifts for a season last Sunday. Although much of it was mechanically Â made, they received a big dump of snow early early last week to give them that extra nudge. Â Others in the opening pipeline in the coming weeks include Loveland Ski Area later this week, Keystone resort on November 1 and Vail and Steamboat and a swath of others are planning to be open on time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
